"You're kind of flawsome" - A Quick Sunday Read
An inkling to tickle your thoughts and inspire your words
“You have a lot of flaws. But, you’re still kind of awesome.”
“So, I’m flawsome.”
“Yep, you’re kind of flawsome.”
These were the only memorable lines of dialogue from a bad rom-com I recently watched. Can’t remember the title. Something pretty lame where the couple, beyond the meet-cute, had zero chemistry.
But, I wrote down the dialogue, as it led to this week’s word. Sometimes words are just fun.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts.
A Quick Word - Words have power. Use them well.
This week's word: Flawsome
Flawsome. What a whimsical word.
Flawsome is a portmanteau combining flaws and awesome. It’s an adjective meaning "an individual who embraces their flaws and knows they're awesome regardless."
More directly, flawsome was a word coined by Tyra Banks during her show “America’s Next Top Model,” where she describes something as awesome because of, not despite, its flaws.
"Flaws are awesome. Flawsome. I love making up a word.”— Tyra Banks
Simply, our flaws are what make us multi-dimensional and distinctive.
Flawsome is permission for imperfection where we reframe our flaws as interesting idiosyncrasies.
Seeing your flaws is not about looking at what’s wrong with you. No, knowing your flaws is part of building your strength. Flawsome is empowering.
"Embrace the glorious mess that you are."— Elizabeth Gilbert
You don’t need fixing.
Reminded me of that great scene in “Good Will Hunting,” with Robin Williams’ therapist character telling Will about his wife’s flaws:
“I knew all of her little idiosyncracies and she knew mine… People call these things imperfections, but they're not. Aww, that's the good stuff. And then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds…
“You're not perfect, sport, and let me save you the suspense: this girl you've met, she's not perfect either. But the question is whether or not you're perfect for each other.”
What would happen if you celebrated your flaws as things that make you unique? Your flaws are gifts too.
That’s being flawsome.
Flaws are why we fall in love with our favorite characters. I shared this note this week about this very thing, from an insightful piece by Jen Grisanti:
Think about your favorite characters and how it’s their flaws that they often learn from. It’s their flaws we often relate to. It’s their flaws that awaken the strength that lifts them to victory or resolution.
Take a few moments this week to ponder how flawsome you are.

A Quick Share
Here are some things I read worth sharing this week:
From Andrea Gibson. Beautifully written reflection and tribute to her voice that she lost during chemo:
From the lovely John P. Weiss about writing what the heart wants to write. I needed to read it: No Tears in the Writer; No Tears in the Reader
A quote I’m pondering. I felt my mind exhale and it allowed me to get present to face what’s in the here and now.
