A Quick Sunday Read and a bit about Connection
A newsletter to tickle your thoughts and inspire your words
Hello Friend!
“We’re all connected.” That was a common sentiment shared with friends and colleagues last week after watching the solar eclipse.
In Austin, we were in the path of totality which was truly an awesome thing to experience. Collectively. Something shifted as we felt the winds pick up and heard the birds stop singing during total darkness. We were connected at that moment to millions of other celestial watchers across the globe.
It got me thinking about connection in a deeper way which led to this week’s word.
As always, would love to hear your thoughts.
A Quick Word - Words have power. Use them well.
This week's word: Connection
This week I also attended a private screening of the powerful documentary, “Show Her the Money,” created and produced by the inspiring Catherine Gray. Connection is at the heart of this film. Connecting women angel investors and venture capitalists with women founders. The successful matches occurred because the investors connected to the founder’s vision, most times for reasons deeper than the numbers on a spreadsheet.
Connection. What a binding word.
"We are all connected. To each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe atomically. We are not figuratively, but literally stardust." - Neil DeGrasse Tyson
Connect is a verb meaning "to join together two things, or to be joined together." Or "to show a person or thing to be related to someone or something else." Or "to provide a circuit for communicating." Or "to create a relationship between two or more people, groups, or things."
Join, combine, unite, conjoin, link, associate, relate.
First used in the 15th century, Middle English, from Latin conectere, connectere, from com- + nectere meaning to bind.
The notion of connection is lovely because it's intrinsic and extrinsic simultaneously.
There's intra-connection which is the connection to self.
There's an interconnection which is to connect to each other.
There's the eco-centric connection which is the notion of being connected with everything that is.
Connection is one our personal powers. As human beings we are receptors in constant connection. Our bodies tell us when something’s wrong or when we feel good.
"Our life is composed greatly from dreams, from the unconscious, and they must be brought into connection with action. They must be woven together." – Anais Nin
Connection is energy, it's what you do with your connection that's important. You own it and it's your choice on where, when and how it takes place. That's a big responsibility.
Connect to the body symphony. Make a loving connection to your body with the right foods, moving the body and getting a solid night of sleep.
Connect to mind/heart/spirit. Meditate to receive your highest wisdom. Pray to receive God’s guidance. Learn from the ancient Stoics and philosophers by reading them. Practice self-love.“
"You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."— Marcus Aurelius
Connect to the present moment. The easiest way to do that is to connect to your breathing. Often.
Connect to community. Where you lift each other up, promote each other’s goodwill, always, and never gossip about one another. This is a requirement for an inner circle’s true connection. I saw a quote recently that said, “I will only sit at a table where I won’t be the topic of ill-will conversation after I leave it.” Amen.
"You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with."— Jim Rohr
Connect to purpose. Look for fresh avenues for connection based on values. The projects and partnerships that are in authentic alignment will flourish. The rest will fall away.
Connect more with nature. Explore unexplored territories. Be in service to the earth.
Connect with family in meaningful, memorable ways. Be of service.
Connect with money and finances. Connecting regularly keeps it on track.
Connect daily with your intentions. Get clear about them as they become a part of your vernacular.
Connect to your attention. It's a fast life and the more you’re in touch with where you place your attention, the slower life becomes, the moments in-between hold more air and space to breathe.
Connect the dots. When you start to realize that we really are all connected with all that is, things make sense. Take a moment this week and settle into your buoyancy. Something to think about.
“We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow man."— Herman Melville
Something to think about. And to connect with.
